Dr. Jan Liesenfeld

EXPERTISE

Jan advises and represents national and international clients across all areas of private business law. He has particular expertise in commercial and corporate law, including directors’ liability and post-M&A disputes. His practice also covers the assessment of liability and damages, contract law – including employment and service agreements – and the law of general terms and conditions. Additionally, he has extensive experience in unfair competition law.

Jan specializes in international dispute resolution, bringing extensive experience in handling complex disputes before state courts, commercial arbitration tribunals and out-of-court settlements. He has also led mass litigation proceedings in consumer protection law.

Jan gained practical experience at various major international law firms and deepened his understanding of the U.S. legal system during an academic stay at New York University. His academic engagements further include a PhD in general obligations law and lecturing at Bucerius Law School. Additionally, he has a strong grasp of the legal tech market, including AI and other software solutions that enhance legal services.

Before joining ARKTIK Legal, Jan was part of PwC Legal’s litigation and arbitration practice, focusing on corporate damage proceedings and international civil procedure law. Prior to that, he led an innovation team at a legal tech firm, where he developed mass litigation and debt collection solutions for consumers.

CASES

Jan represented a British entrepreneur in a multi-million dispute over a variable purchase price from the sale of a company and damages due to harmful corporate governance.

His experience includes the representation of an international mobile gaming company in a multi-state dispute due to defamation by a competitor on the internet.

Jan represented an insolvency administrator in asserting loan claims of an insolvent company.

He represented a public limited company in pursuing liability claims against a former board member for embezzlement of company funds and defense against compensation claims.

Jan advised the head of a large hospital group on handling a complex damages case and avoiding liability.

Jan has also served as an arbitral secretary in a commercial arbitration under the arbitration rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in the field of energy law.
