DISPUTE RESOLUTION

Litigation

We advise companies and individuals in complex matters before German courts. We have significant experience initiating and defending cases for multinational companies in both individual and mass proceedings. Our experience includes representing technology clients with a particular focus on tech, internet and social media law as well as clients in the automotive sector.

International Commercial Arbitration

We represent private individuals, corporates and state (owned) entities in international commercial arbitrations. Our experience extends to all major international arbitration rules, including DIS, ICC, SCC, LCIA and UNCITRAL. Our main areas of expertise includes corporate law disputes, post-M&A disputes as well as disputes in the context of international distribution contracts and commercial transactions. Our professional and academic experience and the wide range of our working languages (German, English, French, Greek, Swedish and Turkish) enables us to adapt to and understand the particularities of international and multilingual disputes.

International Reinsurance Dispute Resolution

We represent insurance companies in their role as a reinsured, reinsurer or even retrocessionaire in various constellations of reinsurance or retrocession law disputes, particularly in front of ad hoc arbitration proceedings. Besides procedural questions around reinsurance disputes, we also represent our clients in recurrent and emerging issues of the reinsurance industry.

Investment Treaty Arbitration

Our lawyers have vast practical and academic experience in international investment (treaty) arbitration, including such disputes administered by the World Bank Group’s International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). We represent both investors and States, and we regularly cooperate with various domestic and international law firms.

International Sports Arbitration

We represent athletes, clubs and sports federations in context with sports arbitration proceedings in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland. While our main focus is on disputes around contractual and disciplinary matters, we also advise our clients on further aspects of sports law.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

We are committed to vigorously defending the interests of our clients in front of domestic courts or arbitral tribunals. At the same time, we believe that most disputes can be solved amicably by way of a solution-oriented and pragmatic problem-solving strategy.

Besides time and cost aspects, also policy considerations and reputational risks often advocate for alternative ways to solve disputes. While advising our clients in legal disputes, we always follow a comprehensive approach and assess all aspects of the case – legal and business related. Prior to engaging in a legal proceeding, we assess the chances of a commercial solution and provide our clients with strategic advice in settlement negotiations or mediation in order to resolve disputes in their best interest.
